All children aged 5-11 continue to be offered vaccination against Covid-19 vaccine and this half-term holiday is good time to get your child vaccinated in time for the summer when cases might increase.

Two doses of the vaccine (at least 12 weeks apart) should give the child long-lasting protection against serious complications of infection and some protection from mild symptoms. To book an appointment, please visit https://www.nhs.uk/covidvaccination or call 119.

If you do not know your child’s NHS number you can get it:

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Cherwell District Council has made an Order under Section 21 of the Town Police Clauses Act 1847, the effect of which is to close the under-mentioned lengths of road to all vehicular traffic from 12pm – 6pm on 5th June 2022 on occasion of the ‘Middle Barton Rd Jubilee Party’

• North end of Middle Barton Rd from its junction with Main St to 100m south of the Village Hall.

This temporary restriction does not apply to emergency service vehicles and is subject to the discretion of a Police Officer or Traffic Warden.

Temporary Traffic Regulation Notice – S14 Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984

Temporary Road Closure and “No Waiting” restriction at Somerton, Water Street

In the interests of public safety, it will be necessary for Oxfordshire County Council to close the road and impose a ‘No Waiting’ restriction as detailed above to facilitate resurfacing of the carriageway and the subsequent reinstatement of all road markings and lines.

A temporary Notice is being made to implement the temporary closure and will operate from 16 June 2022 up to and including 22 June 2022. This will operate between 07:00 and 19:00 week days only.

A Temporary Traffic Regulation Notice is being made to implement the temporary closure and restriction and will operate on the days shown above.

Please note that Notices for urgent works can last up to 5 consecutive days only.

Access will be maintained for emergency service vehicles and for those frontages within the closure area, subject to the progress of the works and liaison with the works supervisor. 

A copy of the drawing showing the extent of the closure and restriction and also the alternative route for traffic is attached.

You may notice some strange yellow markings appearing around the village. After numerous complaints to the Parish Council your councillors have taken on the ‘delightful task’ of going around the village and footpaths and will mark/highlight dog poo!

The paint is biodegradable and environmentally friendly and the point of marking it is to raise awareness as to how many dog owners are leaving poo around the village, be that on paths, driveways, in front gardens/verges, on public footpaths and in fields containing livestock. In the past when the village was smaller and there were less dogs it might not have been an issue but the village has grown in the last decade and since lock down there are a lot more dogs!

Please can dog owners pick up after their dogs and put the waste in the numerous bins located around the village. Many thanks!

A reminder to Good Neighbour schemes and support groups. A targeted programme has been set up by Cherwell District Council using money from the government’s Household Support Fund. It will help pay for vulnerable households’ food, energy, and water bills – but other costs can be covered too, including clothing and replacements or repairs for white goods or essential transport costs.

The funds are awarded based on a household’s specific situation and needs and will usually be in the form of grocery vouchers or utility bill payments.

If you know someone who will need this kind of support, please encourage them to call the North Oxfordshire Citizens Advice Household Support Fund helpline on 0300 303 0993. They should leave their details in a voicemail and wait for a call back to be assessed.

In response to the new Omicron wave of covid-19 the vaccination effort has been ramped up and there is an urgent need for volunteers to steward at vaccination centres over the next few weeks.

The Parish Council, in partnership with the Parochial Church Council, are holding a village commemoration for Remembrance Sunday as we remember the dead of both world wars and all those who have died as a result of war.

As we have no war memorial, a temporary memorial will be set up on the triangle of land opposite the church on Main Street. In collaboration with the church the two minutes silence will be kept at 11am on Sunday 14th November, a wreath will be laid from the village and there will be a short ceremony outside prior to the service in Church led by Father Campling of Bloxham.   All are warmly invited to attend.

It would be very much appreciated if traffic could be kept to a minimum, or avoid the area, between 10.50 and 11.15.
