Services

In addition to our new Family@Church Breakfast Service, which is held on the third Sunday of the month, we are replacing the prayer book services, held on the first two Sundays of the month, with acts of worship in modern day language. Do come and see what you think!

Cleaning rota volunteers needed

We rely on a group of volunteers to keep our church looking nice for Sunday services and any funerals and weddings which take place. We clean one section of the church each week on a rota basis, this takes about an hour every 6 weeks, so is not too onerous, and can be done at a time to suit you – the church is usually open 8.30am – 6pm. Could you join our rota? For more information please contact Sarah Taylor (sarah.taylor27.st@gmail.com 01869 340827) or Clare Burgess (clarebugress@gmail.com 01869 347382)

Holiday reading

Are you stuck for some holiday reading, if so, why don’t you drop into the church and pick up a book. We have a good selection of books for both adults and children. Alternatively, if you have enjoyed reading a book, why don’t you add it to our collection.  There is no charge, no form to fill in and the church is open during daylight hours. You can find the books in the small side area on the left before the altar.

Dates for the diary

Our charities

Charity of the Quarter

In August, September and October the PCC will be collecting donations in church to help the work of Polly. As well as providing food, Polly is a friend to the friendless or people on the margins of society; those recently out of hospital or prison, as well as the homeless – anyone who needs love and guidance as well as food. Money should be put in charity plate at the end of a service, or in an envelope and delivered to Clare Burgess at 5 Hill Farm Lane, clarebugress@gmail.com 347382.

You can also donate in kind throughout the year towards Polly’s work and there is a basket for donations of food (in date) and toiletries in the church. Any shampoos/soap/other toiletries (half-used is OK), or sanitary products, are always welcome and can be left in a bag in Polly’s basket. All donations greatly appreciated.  Thank you to everyone who supports Polly in her work.

Breakfast Service

On Sunday, 19th May we held our very first family service with breakfast. Thank you to everyone who came and made this such a successful event. Special thanks go to Jane McBean for bringing her gorgeous sheep, to Steph for organising interesting and creative activities, to the musicians who sang and accompanied us, and for the breakfast, especially Carol’s delicious breakfast pie. We hope to be holding another family service in July, so watch this space next month for details. All ages welcome!

Prayer Tree

There will be a Prayer Tree in Duns Tew church between Ascension Day (30th May) and Pentecost (9th June). The idea is to write a name, or a place, or a situation on one of the cards provided, and tie it on the tree. These become the focus for our prayers throughout the period. On Friday 7th June there will be a special time when anyone who wishes can meet in church at 6.30pm. We will then read all the cards aloud, saying a prayer for everything and everyone who has been named. You are very welcome to pop into church and place a prayer card on the tree or join us on 7th June at 6.30pm, or do both.

Books for Duns Tew

Last year on 1st May we launched the successful ‘Books for Duns Tew’ venture in the church meeting room and since then it has gone from strength to strength. ‘Books for Duns Tew’ is based on the ‘Books for London’ scheme where we invite you to leave a book that you’ve enjoyed on the shelves for someone else to read, and take away another book that takes your fancy.

No joining fee, No charge, No forms to fill in!

There is a good selection of books, including the latest bestsellers for both adults and children.

The church is open during daylight hours – more or less! When you get inside the church, walk down the aisle and at the bottom turn left to the meeting room where you will find the books.

Do turn the lights on, so that you can see, but please turn them off when you leave.

This venture is organised by the PCC of St Mary Magdalene Church
